Restoring Hawai'i's Forests
The vision of the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative is to develop and implement innovative forest restoration models that return Hawai'i's endemic forests to the landscape — and keep them financially self-supporting both now and into the future.
Our Mission
Six commitments to the land Body
Everything we do at HLRI is guided by a clear purpose, to restore what was lost and protect what remains. Our work focuses on six core commitments:

Restore and improve the Hawaiian forest to what it once was

Allow landowners to profitably establish and maintain permanent native forest

Protect and promote our native flora and fauna

Maximize the sequestration of carbon from our atmosphere

Educate everyone who lives in or visits our islands about caring for our forests

Recharge our watersheds and allow individuals and businesses to become stakeholders of our environment through the planting of trees
